The Mission
Of The Army
The mission of the Army is to fight and win the nation's wars, to export violence
in the form of firepower at
whatever level of intensity desired to accomplish the assigned mission. To do this, a soldier must have embedded within himself
a Warrior Ethos. "Warrior: A man engaged or experienced in warfare/a person engaged in some struggle or conflict. Ethos: The
distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution."
The Army has always accomplished this mission through training, training, and more training. To restate the obvious, we are
in a physical war. Our physical enemy has come into our house and killed thousands of our family. We must physically react
to this attack, and we have. This enemy must be physically defeated, and our military will do that. But, there's more to it
than meets the natural eye.
We are engaged, decisively, in a spirtual war. The very soul of America and the world is at stake, and it didn't start on
9/11, 2001. It began in heaven, and the rules of engagement for those of us who dwell on earth were established by God Himself
in Genesis 3:15, "I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your
head, and you will strike his heel." You see our God is a warrior! This spiritual war started in heaven and through fallen
man is raging on earth today. It is a war lost by Satan through the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, but our enemy has not
surrendered. This enemy is clearly described in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober! Be on the alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling
around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour." It cannot be stated any plainer than that. God, who is our
commander, after identifying the enemy, gave us our defensive actions in Ephesians 6:10-18, "Finally, be strengthened by the
Lord and by His vast strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil. 12
For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of
this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. 13 This is why you must take up the full armor of God,
so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. 14 Stand, therefore,
with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, 15 and your feet sandaled with readiness
for the gospel of peace. 16 In every situation take the shield of faith, and with it you will be able to extinguish the
flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is God's word. 18
With every prayer and request, pray at all times in the Spirit, and stay alert in this, with all perseverance and intercession
for all the saints."
You see, what Satan thought he accomplished on Calvary didn't turn out exactly the way he planned it. According to the Holy
Scriptures, here's what he really did: he killed divinity's disguise and unleashed the Christ, the Lamb slain before
the foundation of the world. What Satan did the day he killed the Lamb was to unveil the Lion. When Satan killed
the flesh of Jesus the Lamb, he unleashed the power of Christ the Lion of Judah. We have our orders spelled out in the Bible,
the Holy, inerrant, infallible, Word of God. We know how we are supposed to train; we know how we are supposed to fight.
So soldier on, my brothers, soldier on.
